Washington County Obituary Records

Washington has 39 counties, each with its own local health department and archives that hold death records and related materials. Before July 1, 1907, counties were the primary keepers of death registers and returns. After that date, the state Department of Health took over official registration, but county archives still hold older records and can help with local research. Many county-level obituary indexes, cemetery transcriptions, and newspaper collections are available through the Washington State Library and the Washington State Digital Archives. Select a county below to find obituary and death record resources specific to that area.
